SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Gayle M. Blatt and Robert J. Francavilla — both partners at Casey, Gerry, Reed & Schenk, a prominent plaintiff’s law firm — have been recognized as “Outstanding Trial Lawyers” by the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego (CASD).

According to Frederick Schenk, a senior partner at Casey Gerry, the litigators were honored during a special “Evening with the Trial Stars” dinner hosted by CASD at the Wyndam Emerald Plaza Hotel.

Schenk said that the award was presented to Blatt and Francavilla based on their outstanding legal skills and accomplishments — in particular a premises liability case the duo recently handled on behalf of plaintiff Timothy Allen.

“During a San Diego Gulls hockey game at the San Diego Sports Arena, a puck careened over a protective glass wall directly into Mr. Allen’s face,” Schenk said. “As a result, he suffered a fractured nose and skull and severe damage to his eye, which he ultimately lost.”

The plaintiff contended that the defendant — the San Diego Sports Arena — was negligent since the glass protector was just four-feet-high, while the majority of hockey leagues use eight-foot walls as a safeguard, Schenk explained. “Although the defendant claimed that Allen’s injury was an inherent risk associated with attending a hockey game, Ms. Blatt and Mr. Francavilla Successfully argued their case and were able to obtain a well-deserved $832,000 jury verdict for their client,” Schenk said.

“This case is just one example of the complex litigation that these two have masterfully handled,” he added.

Concentrating her practice on class action litigation, personal injury and wrongful death, Blatt began her legal career as a clerk for CGRS and has since worked her way up the ranks. Earning numerous multi-million dollar results for her clients, she is especially active in product liability cases involving children. A resident of the University City neighborhood of San Diego, Blatt earned her J.D. from California Western School of Law.

Having been with Casey Gerry for more than 15 years, Francavilla focuses his practice on all aspects of serious personal injury and wrongful death actions including product liability, automotive litigation, premises liability and highway design matters. He has been honored twice before with CASD’s Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award. Francavilla earned his J.D. from University of San Diego, and is a resident of the Golden Triangle.

Established in 1960 by David Casey Sr. — the founding partner of CGRS — CASD is a San Diego based organization of trial lawyers dedicated to preserving and protecting the legal rights of consumers.

Located at 110 Laurel Street, Casey Gerry Reed & Schenk is the oldest plaintiffs’ law firm in San Diego. The firm’s eleven attorneys practice in various areas, including personal injury, business torts, medical malpractice, asbestos litigation, maritime law, class actions and products liability.
