November 27, 2006 Press Releases

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — As it nears its 60th anniversary, Casey Gerry Schenk Francavilla Blatt & Penfield — San Diego’s oldest plaintiff’s law firm — has begun the extensive renovation of its longtime office building, a Banker’s hill landmark at the corner of Sixth and Laurel.
According to the firm’s senior partner David Casey Jr., the contemporary two-story building was constructed in 1961 under the direction of firm founder David Casey Sr. and his brother, developer Robert Casey. “Appropriately, the renovation is being spearheaded by the second generation — with Robert’s son Robin Casey, president of Casey Development, serving as general contractor for the project.”

Slated for completion in October, 2007, the renovated 8,850 square-foot building will feature a dramatic Mediterranean style architectural exterior masterminded by Graham Viney Architecture and state-of-the-art interiors designed by Howard Sneed Architecture and Design. A new landscape plan will be designed by Todd Fry, Landscape Architect.

Sporting a more traditional look, the refurbished building will have an entirely new façade and roofing, including a new stucco finish with precast stone surround and a mission clay tile roof, plus 1,600-square-feet of covered carports accommodating nine cars.

The end result, will be “a Mediterranean motif in keeping with the Spanish style characteristic of nearby Balboa Park, “ said architect Graham Viney.

The structure’s redone interiors will feature a new modern, efficient custom design, with new “state of the art” communications technology and a reconfigured office floor plan.

The renovation also includes the addition of two new exit stairways, a new elevator, handicapped accessible parking and entry and a new sprinkler system — all to ensure increased building safety.

“Casey Gerry has flourished in San Diego for nearly six decades and is now known as one of the top victim’s advocate firms in the nation,” Casey says. “We celebrate our 60th anniversary next year, and this state-of-the-art new structure will aptly signify our past, present and future.”
Indeed, the firm’s roots date back to 1947, when Casey’s late father, David Casey Sr., founded a small law firm to provide quality service for plaintiffs in civil litigation and personal injury cases.

Over the years, Casey Gerry has emerged as one of San Diego’s leading law firms, with the proven ability to handle personal injury cases of all scopes and sizes. More recently, the firm has also earned a national reputation for its role in the $5 billion settlement in the Exxon Valdez oil spill, the pro bono program for families of September 11 victims and California’s high profile $25 billion settlement with the tobacco companies.

Located at 110 Laurel Street, Casey Gerry’s 11 attorneys practice in various areas, including personal injury, pharmaceutical drug, asbestos litigation, class action and products liability.
