SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Thomas D. Penfield — a partner with San Diego based law firm Casey Gerry Schenk Francavilla Blatt & Penfield, LLP — was recently named president-elect of the Bar Association of North San Diego County (BANSDC), a Vista, Calif.- based organization focused on promoting the development of the legal profession.

A resident of Cardiff by the Sea, Penfield was unanimously elected president at the organization’s board of directors meeting. Previously  a vice president and the secretary of  BANSDC, he has been on the association’s board for three years, and served for two years as  chair of its personal injury section. He will officially be sworn in as BANSDC president in January of 2009.

“Tom is very active in the North San Diego  County community, and we are pleased that he will continue to represent our firm in this growing region of San Diego,” said the firm’s senior partner David S. Casey, Jr.  “His role as president of this important professional organization ensures that we continue to maintain a strong North County presence.”

Penfield says that during his tenure as president, he plans to increase the visibility, participation and membership of the North County Bar and provide important services – such as informational monthly meetings and community education — to the members.

With significant experience in personal injury, products liability, and class actions, Penfield has been an attorney with Casey Gerry since 1988.

He is a graduate of California Western School of Law (J.D. 1974) and  was the recipient of the Environmental Lawyer of the Year Award from the Sierra Club’s San Diego Chapter in 1996.

Prior to joining Casey Gerry, he worked as a supervising trial lawyer with the Defenders Program of San Diego, and as a full-time clinical Professor of Law at the University of San Diego (USD) School of Law, where he still teaches as an Adjunct Professor of Law.

Since 1956, North County Bar Association has been dedicated to providing its members with programs and services promoting the development of the legal profession and serving the community.

Celebrating more than 60 years in San Diego, Casey Gerry was established in 1947, and is the oldest plaintiffs’ law firm in San Diego.  The firm’s 11 attorneys practice in numerous areas, including asbestos, personal injury, product liability and pharmaceutical litigation.

Located at 110 Laurel St. in the Banker’s Hill neighborhood of San Diego, the firm recently completed an extensive $3 million renovation of its longtime offices.

Casey Gerry also maintains a satellite office in Solana Beach.
