Florida Digestive Health Specialists Data Breach

The law firm of CaseyGerry is investigating a data breach which has affected more than 212,000 patients of Florida Digestive Health Specialists (FDHS).

The gastroenterology healthcare provider began alerting affected patients to an email breach that occurred in 2020. The first round of notification letters was sent out on December 27, 2021.

According to the notice of breach on the company’s website, FDHS became aware of suspicious activity on December 16, 2020 when they noticed unauthorized emails sent from a FDHS employee’s email account. In addition, they discovered that funds were routed to an unknown bank account.

A large amount of sensitive information was accessible via the hacked employee accounts including health and personal information of patients.

The compromised information included names, addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers. Health related information included, health insurance information, diagnosis, policy number and Medicare/Medicaid information.

The company stated that their investigations took a year to conclude. Unfortunately, this delay could severely impact those affected by the breach.
