KIA Telluride Headlight Malfunction Investigation

CaseyGerry is investigating reports of malfunctioning halogen headlights in 2020 Kia Telluride Models.

Kia Telluride car owners reported that their headlights stopped working, or worked sometimes. The reports also indicated that once the headlights started to malfunction, the owners only recourse was to replace them at the cost of $3000.00.

Yahoo News reported that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation to determine if a recall is necessary for the 87,000 units of the vehicle.

According to CarScoops, the NHTSA has received 23 reports regarding the defective Kia Telluride headlights. The reports indicated compromised visibility, reliance on the vehicles’ low-beams, and safety concerns.

Even more concerning is a 2020 safety test by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which found that the high-beams on the Kia Telluride compensated for some shortcomings of the low-beams.

According to Motor and Wheels, 20% of complaints by Kia Telluride drivers are about malfunctioning halogen headlights including high-beams that work sometimes, or not at all.

The article also raises some dire concerns regarding the malfunctioning headlights, particularly, how the malfunction can affect the vehicles’ Advanced Driver Assistance Systems such as emergency braking, pedestrian avoidance and more.
