Honda Civic Sticky Power Steering Class Action Investigation

(Honda) for failing to address an alleged defect with their steering system that makes steering difficult and potentially dangerous when the car is traveling at high rate of speed on the highway. The alleged defect affects Honda Civic 2022-2023 Models. Over 230,000 units may be impacted.

About 140 claims were filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in under a year, with drivers reporting that the steering systems in these vehicles models were difficult to maneuver while travelling at high speeds.

The claims also allege that Honda was aware of the malfunction because of complaints filed for prior Honda Civic models (2016-2021) with the same defect.

According to buyers and lessees, they did not get any warning about the defect, or resolutions for the issue when they took their vehicles to dealerships.

The NHTSA ODI investigation report filed on March 17, 2023 describes the problem as, “Vehicle steering can stick and cause a momentary increase in steering effort that could potentially cause overcorrection and an increased risk of a crash.” 

According to the website CarComplaints.Com, Honda drivers have complained that the steering gets sticky (hard to move) when the vehicle goes faster than 40mph.
