What Devices are Included in the Recall?

San Diego Exactech Recall Lawyers

Exactech has voluntarily recalled polyethylene inserts, used in all its knee, ankle, and hip replacement implant systems made after 2004. The affected products were marketed and sold as:

  • Optetrak
  • Truliant
  • Vantage
  • Connexion GXL

The recall was initiated on August 31, 2021, then updated in 2022 after discovering that 80% of their polyethylene inserts were improperly packaged. As a result, the devices were prematurely exposed to oxygen, leading them to wear out prematurely and cause complications when implanted.

Who Qualifies to File an Exactech Recall Lawsuit?

Patients implanted with a recalled Exactech ankle, knee, or hip device that caused complications are filing lawsuits. Injuries from degraded inserts and liners include:

  • Accelerated debris
  • Bone loss
  • Cracking
  • Fracture
  • Loosening
  • Pain
  • Revision surgery

If you believe you have a claim against Exactech after a hip, knee, or ankle replacement, contact an experienced San Diego Exactech Recall Lawyer as soon as possible. Exactech lawsuits are currently being consolidated into MDLs (multidistrict litigation). An MDL is a type of mass tort lawsuit, different from a class action lawsuit. In an MDL, claims are combined to expedite the process, but cases are still decided individually.

Types of Compensation Available

There are no Exactech lawsuit settlements or verdicts as of yet, as litigation is still in the early stages. However, victims have the right to recover the following types of compensation:

Economic Damages

Compensation that reimburses actual financial losses. Some examples include:

  • Current and Future Medical Bills: Any costs related to treating the complications caused by the defective implant, including surgeries, medications, rehabilitation, medical equipment, etc.
  • Lost Wages: Any income lost while you recover.
  • Loss of Earning Potential: If your injury forces you into a different line of work or leaves you unable to earn the same level of income as before the accident.

Non-Economic Damages

Compensation for subjective or personal losses, which makes them much more challenging to prove. For instance:

  • Pain & Suffering: Compensation for the physical trauma you have endured.
  • Emotional Damages: Any psychological symptoms (e.g., anxiety, depression, PTSD, insomnia, etc.)
  • Loss of Enjoyment of Life: If you are unable to participate in activities you used to enjoy before your injuries caused by the defective device.

This is not an exhaustive list, as the types of losses victims, the experience will vary by case.
