Katie McBain

Associate Attorney

Catherine “Katie” McBain is an attorney at Casey Gerry Schenk Francavilla Blatt & Penfield, whose practice focuses on mass torts, sexual assaults, catastrophic injury and wrongful death, as well as premises and product liability. Katie began her career at Casey Gerry on the complex team assisting partners Gayle Blatt, Camille Guerra, and Jeremy Robinson on numerous high profile class actions across the country. She leads the firm’s pro bono team and is passionate about giving a voice to the voiceless. Prior to joining Casey Gerry, Katie defended medical malpractice claims, represented a retirement pension system, and litigated complex trust, estate and financial elder abuse matters.

Katie is on the board of directors for the Lawyers Club, a member of the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego (CASD), as well as a member of the Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) and a board member-at-large of CAOC’s New Lawyers Division; she is a member of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), the Federal Bar Association, the San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA), and a board member for the Association of Business Trial Lawyers (ABTL). She is admitted to practice law in California.

Katie attended Cornell University, where she was a D1 pole vaulter and earned her Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations, with a concentration in Inequality and focus on statistics and labor economics. She worked in Washington, D.C. several years before earning her Juris Doctor in 2014 from California Western School of Law. While attending law school, Katie volunteered for Elder Law & Advocacy and worked as a third-party neutral doing high-net divorce finances. She also competed on the negotiation team and was a volunteer mediator for small claims court.

When not working, Katie enjoys singing, yoga, running, cycling, scuba diving, surfing, traveling, art, and time with her cats.
