CASEY GERRY SCHENK FRANCAVILLA BLATT & PENFIELD PARTNERS NAMED IN LEGAL SYSTEM’S PREEMINENT REFERRAL GUIDE

September 22, 2005 Press Releases

SAN DIEGO – Longtime Casey Gerry partners David S. Casey Jr. and Frederick Schenk have been named in the 2006 edition of “The Best Lawyers in America,” the country’s premiere referral guide for the legal profession.

According to Casey, the listings further establish Casey Gerry as one of San Diego County’s top plaintiffs’ law firms and also continue an important family legacy. “Casey Gerry has a longstanding tradition of inclusion in this prestigious guide, which dates back 22 years, when David Casey Sr. was featured in the inaugural guide,” he said.

Released biennially since 1983, the guide will be published annually starting with the 2006 issue.
The rankings represent 57 specialties in all the 50 United States and Washington D.C. Schenk is recognized under the Mass Tort Litigation section, while Casey is named in the Personal Injury section.

The Best Lawyers rankings are compiled through an exhaustive peer-review survey in which thousands of top lawyers throughout the U.S. are confidentially evaluated by their professional peers. Because the attorneys do not pay a fee for the listing, Best Lawyers has received numerous accolades and gained respect as the country’s most reliable, unbiased source of legal referrals.

A third generation attorney, Casey has spent nearly 30 years practicing law in San Diego. Specializing in serious personal injury and wrongful death cases, he has obtained successful verdicts and settlements for dozens of high profile cases, and played a major role in the fight against the tobacco industry — representing the then-Lt. Gov. Gray Davis in tobacco litigation on behalf of the people of California.

Casey recently finished his tenure as president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA), where he gained national recognition for his work to organize a moratorium on civil lawsuits related to the events of Sept. 11.

In addition, Casey is past president of both the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego and the Consumer Attorneys of California, has been inducted into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and is a fellow of the International Academy of Barristers. The native La Jollan received his bachelor’s degree from Trinity College and a law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law. In 1974, he joined what is now Casey Gerry Reed & Schenk, which was founded by his father, David Casey Sr., more than 50 years ago.

An attorney with Casey Gerry since 1983, Schenk has extensive experience in products liability, personal injury, asbestos law and drug litigation. He has been recognized by “San Diego Magazine” as the top local plaintiffs’ personal injury attorney specializing in asbestos litigation and was recently named one of San Diego’s top attorneys by the San Diego Daily Transcript.

He served as president of the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, is a past-president of The Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, and was a founding co-chair of the Cardozo Society of the United Jewish Federation, which promotes Jewish learning, continuing legal education, and networking for Jewish attorneys in San Diego.

A resident of Carmel Valley, Schenk earned his law degree from the University of San Diego and his bachelor’s degree from UCLA.

Casey Gerry Schenk Francavilla Blatt & Penfield was originally established in 1947, and is the oldest plaintiffs’ law firm in San Diego. The firm’s 12 attorneys practice in numerous areas, including, personal injury, pharmaceutical drug, asbestos litigation, class action and products liability. The firm is located at 110 Laurel St. in the Banker’s Hill neighborhood of San Diego.
