CaseyGerry Managing Partner Profiled in Daily Journal’s Annual Top 100 Attorneys List

September 23, 2020 Press Releases

SAN DIEGO (September 23, 2020) – CaseyGerry managing partner David S. Casey Jr. has been recognized as one of the “100 Leading Lawyers in California” by the Los Angeles/San Francisco Daily Journal, one of the legal profession’s preeminent publications. The 2020 edition appeared September 16 in a special Daily Journal supplement.

The prestigious award is given by the editors of the statewide publication to recognize California’s most influential legal practitioners.  This marks Casey Jr.’s 10th appearance on the list.

With dozens of high-profile verdicts and settlements achieved over more than 40 years in law, Casey Jr. is known for taking on the most challenging and complex cases – including representing the family of deceased NFL hero Junior Seau, a case in which he achieved a confidential settlement while raising consumer awareness about football head injuries and concussion safety.

Furthering his reputation nationwide, he has played a prominent role in many landmark cases and encourages other CaseyGerry attorneys to do the same as can be seen in the recent precedent-setting ruling in Bolger v. Amazon.com, LLC.  CaseyGerry partners Jeremy K. Robinson and Thomas D. Luneau, and associate Jillian F. Hayes represented client Angela Bolger in precedent setting appeal against Amazon – with a San Diego Appeals Court ruling that Amazon, the online retail giant, can be held liable for defective products sold on its virtual marketplace. As liaison counsel, Casey, Jr. helped achieve a $390 million settlement with Wells Fargo in 2019 over insurance marketing. Serving on the Plaintiff Steering Committee, he also helped negotiate The Volkswagen Group of America’s settlement of $96.5 million for inflated claims of fuel economy on some of their vehicles.

A community leader as well, he is one the top San Diego attorneys who recently helped facilitate RESOLVE Law San Diego, which provided pro bono legal services while the civil courts were closed amid the COVID-19 crisis.

A past president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (now the American Association for Justice), Casey Jr. has received more than 100 awards throughout his career, including a perpetual award in his honor, the “David S. Casey, Jr. Consumer Advocate Award” from the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego and the “Pursuit of Justice” award from the American Bar Association. Recently, he received the Witkin Award for Excellence in the Practice of Law, was inducted into the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego’s “Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame” and was honored with a CLAY award for his work on the national VW Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee (PSC) overseeing litigation targeting Volkswagen.  He was also awarded the Hughes McClenahan award for civility in the practice of law, the highest award given by the San Diego chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).
