Attorney and community leader Frederick Schenk receives top JCC honors

SAN DIEGO — Frederick Schenk, a senior partner with Casey Gerry Reed & Schenk and the immediate past president of the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, JACOBS FAMILY CAMPUS (JCC), was recently honored with the David K. Kroll Leadership Award at the JCC’s annual meeting.

According to the JCC’s executive director Michael Cohen, the award is given annually in recognition of exemplary service, education and commitment to the JCC, a 6,000-member community center situated in San Diego’s Golden Triangle neighborhood. Past recipients of the prestigious award include David Geffen, Gary Jacobs, Joyce Axelrod and Joan Jacobs.

“As president of the JCC’s board of directors, Fred has deftly taken on the challenge of leading our agency with tremendous vision, focus and commitment,” says Cohen. “During his two-and-a-year tenure here, he has helped oversee and guide programs and activities, firmly establishing the JCC as a vibrant community hub, and ensuring that it remain so for years to come.”

Schenk’s involvement with the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center began more than ten years ago. An active member of the board of directors since 1994, he was president from 2000-2002, previously serving as treasurer and chairing the budget & finance committee.

An attorney with San Diego-based Casey Gerry Reed & Schenk (CGRS) since 1983, Schenk has extensive experience in products liability, personal injury, asbestos law and drug litigation. He has been recognized by San Diego Magazine as the top local plaintiffs’ personal injury attorney specializing in asbestos litigation, and was awarded the Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award by Consumer Attorneys of San Diego. He has served as President of the Consumers Attorneys of San Diego and was recognized as Chapter President of the Year by the Consumer Attorneys of California.

In addition, his extensive community and professional involvement includes working with the San Diego Jewish Academy and serving as a board member of the Civil Justice Foundation, a Washington D.C. based nonprofit organization committed to supporting grassroots consumer advocacy. Schenk was also a founding co-chair of the Cardozo Society of the United Jewish Federation, which promotes Jewish learning, continuing legal education, and networking for Jewish attorneys in San Diego and presently serves its steering committee.

A resident of Carmel Valley, Schenk earned his law degree from the University of Southern California and his bachelor’s degree from UCLA.

Casey Gerry Reed and Schenk was established in 1947, and is the oldest plaintiff’s’ law firm in San Diego. The firm’s eleven attorneys practice in numerous areas, including, personal injury, business torts, medical malpractice, asbestos litigation, maritime law, class action and products liability.
