SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Leading local attorney Frederick Schenk has been named president of the board of directors for the newly expanded Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center (JCC) for the term 2000-2002.

A senior partner with the San Diego-based law firm of Casey Gerry Reed & Schenk, he will help guide the activities and programs for the 2,000-member JCC’s Jacobs Family Campus in the Golden Triangle — a community hub which has tripled in size after a recently completed renovation. At 97,000-square-feet, the state-of-the-art new facility now boasts an arts and culture complex, an early child education center, a fitness and aquatics complex and senior center, and education programs which include the largest Jewish day camp in California and the largest Jewish preschool in San Diego.

“This newly expanded facility will have a significant impact on both the Jewish community and the community at large,” said Schenk, who has volunteered at the JCC for the last seven years. “I am honored to continue the legacy of its visionary founders, and to play an important role in its continued growth and community service and outreach.”

Schenk joined Casey Gerry Reed & Schenk as an associate in 1983. A seasoned practitioner of asbestos law, he was named the “best asbestos” attorney in San_Diego-by-San_Diego Magazine in 1996. In addition to asbestos cases, Schenk recently represented Governor Gray Davis in winning one of the nation’s largest tobacco settlements — more than $12 billion — against the tobacco industry.

Schenk is a former president of the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego and was honored as Chapter President of the Year by the Consumer Attorneys of California. An active lecturer and teacher, he has addressed associations such as the Consumer Attorneys of California and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

Since 1995, he has served on the Board of Governors of the Consumer Attorneys of California.

A resident of Carmel Valley, he earned his law degree from the University of San Diego and a bachelor’s degree from UCLA.

Established in 1947, Casey Gerry Reed & Schenk is the oldest plaintiffs’law firm in San Diego. The firm’s eleven attorneys practice in various areas, including personal injury, business torts, medical malpractice, asbestos litigation, maritime law, class actions and products liability. The firm is located at 110 Laurel Street in the Banker’s Hill neighborhood of San Diego.
