SUVS Among Latest Vehicles Recalled by GM

The besieged General Motors Co. is recalling more vehicles – this time more than 51,000 sport-utility vehicles due to fuel-gauge problem, according to a notice posted on the website of the U.S.

The recall includes the safety recall of the 2014 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia manufactured between March 26 and Aug. 15 of 2013. GM to recall over 51,000 SUVs

“An inaccurate fuel gauge may result in the vehicle unexpectedly running out of fuel and stalling, increasing the risk of a crash,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on its website.

The culprit is the engine control module software, which might cause the fuel gauge to read inaccurately – both in the high and low range – by as much as a quarter of a tank.

In the meantime, the agency said that GM would notify owners and that dealers would reprogram the software to correct the fuel-gauge reading free of charge.
