United Bank Maine Data Breach

March 1, 2021 Data Breaches

CaseyGerry is investigating a data breach that may have compromised sensitive information of residents in Maine. The bank reported that a cyberattack occurred in September of 2020 when an unauthorized user gained access to the bank’s network servers.

The compromised information included names and social security numbers of an unknown number of account holders including nine Maine residents. The bank started notifying those possibly affected on February 24, 2021.

This is yet another US Bank data security breach that occurred in 2020.  Another breach occurred in July 2020 when a computer server was physically stolen from a US Bank Corporate office exposing important information of possibly thousands of individuals.

Financial institutions are one of several industries heavily targeted by cyber criminals in increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks. As the fifth largest bank in the country, US Bank has an obligation to its 70,000 employees and over 18 million customers to protect their personal and financial information.
