Aetna and EyeMed Data Breach

On July 1, 2020, EyeMed experienced a data breach when an unauthorized user gained access to the EyeMed mailbox and initiated a phishing scam to email addresses in the mailbox.  EyeMed is owned by Luxottica Group, which also suffered a separate data breach.

Total Vision Data Breach

Optometry patients in California are receiving a notice of a data breach that compromised patients’ highly personal identifiable and sensitive information such as social security numbers.

Total Vision LLC, a California-based network of optometry providers, experienced a cyberattack on October 30, 2020 when a server containing patient information such as name, address, date of birth, social security number and prescription information, was accessed by an unauthorized party.

The company detected ransomware on August 4, 2020 and discovered that an unauthorized third-party gained and maintained access to their system from July 20, 2020 to August 6, 2020.

Ascend Data Breach

Ascend Clinical, a laboratory testing service specializing in testing for kidney disease, has reported a data breach that occurred in May 2020. The report states that the company detected ‘irregularities in the data systems’ and determined that an unauthorized user had accessed and downloaded patient information.

Intcomex Data Breach

Miami-based Intcomex is a supplier of technology products serving more than 50,000 retailers and 180 manufacturers. Its customers and employees recently fell victim to a cybercrime in which hackers stole about a terabyte of Intcomex’s data and released it on a hacking forum.
